2010 PMI Nashville Symposium Call for Papers

PMI Nashville Symposium Benefits

  • A great opportunity to present to a large and experienced group of project, program, and portfolio managers as well as other speakersA majority of the chapter membership works in major IT, financial, and health services organizations.
  • Attendance at the two-day conference event at no charge(All education sessions/panels are limited to one speaker at no chargeAdditional speakers must pay the attendance feeA small honorarium is presented to education session speakers. Reimbursement of expenses, however, is not included.)
  • Chapter-provided copies of the speaker materials to be used for each education session. (The chapter will provide copies of the first 50 slides. This does not limit the number of slides covered during the session.)
  • Promotion of speaker on PMI Nashville 2010 Symposium web page, brochure, and other mediums of communicationThe event will also be promoted to other PMI chapters in the surrounding states, as well as through the PMI Today publication.
  • Access to chapter conducted feedback survey that will help the speakers evaluate their presentations.
  • Potential invitations to present at the PMI Nashville monthly luncheon meetings based on Symposium attendee feedback.
  • Possible reference and recommendations to other PMI chapters for chapter-led events.
  • Professional Development Units (PDUs) for presenting on project management topics qualify under category 2C as documented in the PMI Continuing Certification Requirements handbook.

PMI Nashville 2010 Symposium agrees to:

  • Promote the speaker’s session (if selected from submission) in event promotion as determined by the Symposium Education committeeThis promotion may include event flyers, Symposium brochures, Symposium web page, emails, chapter, and national newsletters.
  • Provide admittance to the Symposium on both days
  • Provide continental breakfastslunches, and breaks throughout the Symposium.
  • Provide audio-visual equipment for the session including:
    • LCD projector (speakers must provide their own laptop computer if needed)
    • Large projection screen
    • Microphone
    • Podium
  • Provide the speaker with a summary of the session feedback.
  • Provide a moderator for each education session.

PMI Nashville - Speaker Expectations

  • The presentation must be strictly educational and cannot be a sales pitch of any kind.
  • The presentation should not be centered on any specific tool(s).
  • The presentation must align with one of the four session tracks:
    • Track 1: Project Management Advanced Tools and Techniques
    • Track 2: Project Management Emerging Trends
    • Track 3: Project Management Core Concepts
    • Track 4: Project Management Leadership
  • The presentation must be 1 hour and 15 minutes. The speaker should plan to use the entire time slot, part of which can be devoted to Q & A.
  • The proposal should clearly state what the attendees would obtain by attending the session with emphasis on practical application of the knowledge gained.
  • The first slide of the presentation must include the title (maximum 50 characters), author’s full name (including credentials), author’s affiliation (if any), author’s e-mail address.
  • The file size must be smaller than 1MBTips to consider when preparing the presentation are unnecessarily including a graphic on every slide and using web-enabled graphics.
  • Materials submitted to the PMI Nashville Chapter will not be returned. Copies of presentations that are not selected will be destroyed at the end of the review process. Note that PMI Nashville may contact a speaker who is not selected and request permission to forward his/her proposal to the PMI Nashville Program VP for consideration in another PMI Nashville program.
  • PMI Nashville reserves the right to edit the biography, abstract, or presentation for use on the chapter web site or symposium promotion materials if necessary due to size or space constraints.
  • PMI Nashville will convert the accepted presentation to PDF file format.
  • After the presentation submission deadline of August 20, 2010no revised presentations will be accepted.
